Ingredients
- cooking spray (to grease the baking dish)
- 21 oz apple pie filling (1 standard can)
- ground cinnamon (sprinkle as much as you'd like)
- 11 oz caramel bits (1 bag Kraft caramel bits or similar)
- 15.25 oz yellow cake mix (1 standard box)
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter (1 stick, sliced into thin pats)
Steps
- 1
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- 2
Lightly spray a casserole dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- 3
Add the apple pie filling to the bottom of the dish and spread it out into an even layer.
- 4
Sprinkle ground cinnamon over the apple layer as much as you'd like.
- 5
Pour the caramel bits over the apples, trying to spread them as evenly as possible.
- 6
Dump the dry yellow cake mix over the top of the caramel and apple layers, ensuring all the caramel is completely covered.
- 7
Add your butter by placing thin slices (pats) evenly across the entire surface of the cake mix. DO NOT MIX the ingredients together.
- 8
Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
Notes
The author emphasizes 'DO NOT MIX'—the butter melting into the dry cake mix is what creates the cobbler-like crust. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
