Vegan Grilled Cheese Hack
A quick vegan grilled cheese method that melts the cheese onto one slice of bread in the microwave before finishing the sandwich in a pan. A faster, lazier variation uses toasted bread and the microwave instead.

Ingredients
- 2 slices bread
- vegan cheese (Amount not specified; spread evenly over one bread slice.)
- vegan butter (Amount not specified; spread on the second bread slice and the top after assembling. Optional in the lazy variation.)
Steps
- 1
Place one slice of bread on a microwave-safe plate. Spread vegan cheese evenly over the slice.
- 2
Microwave the cheese-topped bread for 30 seconds, until the cheese is melted.
- 3
Heat a pan over medium-high heat. Spread vegan butter on the remaining bread slice and place it butter-side down in the pan.
- 4
Line up the melted-cheese bread slice on top of the bread in the pan. Spread vegan butter over the exposed top slice.
- 5
Cook until the bread is grilled to your liking, then serve.
- 6
For the lazier variation, toast both bread slices as close to burnt as possible without burning them.
- 7
Put one toast slice on a plate, sprinkle vegan cheese on top, and microwave until the cheese melts.
- 8
Place the other toast slice on top. Optionally spread vegan butter on it, then flip the sandwich quickly to limit sogginess on the bottom slice.
Notes
The primary pan method does not specify a pan-cooking time or doneness cue. The lazy variation is described as taking less than 6 minutes; the author notes it is less crisp because the bottom slice loses some crispness.
