Ingredients
- 1 package Instant vanilla pudding mix (Approximately 3.4 oz; use one package of instant vanilla pudding mix.)
- 14 oz Sweetened condensed milk
- 1.5 cup Cold water
- 2 cup Heavy whipping cream (Chilled for whipping.)
- 2 tbsp Matcha powder (Sift before folding in; use additional matcha for dusting the finished pudding.)
- 2 large Bananas (Slice before layering; use 2 large or 3 small bananas.)
- 1 box Vanilla wafers (Approximately 11 oz; quantity may vary slightly by box size.)
- Matcha powder for dusting (Use as needed to dust the final layer.)
Steps
- 1
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the vanilla pudding mix, sweetened condensed milk, and cold water until the mixture is smooth and no dry pudding mix remains.
- 2
Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate the pudding mixture for at least 4 hours, or overnight, until thoroughly chilled and set.
- 3
When ready to assemble, pour the chilled heavy whipping cream into a separate bowl. Whip until it forms stiff peaks and holds its shape when the beaters are lifted.
- 4
Fold the whipped cream into the chilled pudding mixture in batches, using a spatula and gentle strokes until the mixture is smooth, evenly combined, and fluffy.
- 5
Sift the matcha powder over the pudding mixture. Fold it in gently until the matcha is evenly distributed and the pudding has a uniform green color.
- 6
Slice the bananas into even rounds and have the vanilla wafers ready for layering.
- 7
In a trifle dish, spread or spoon in a layer of the matcha pudding.
- 8
Add a layer of sliced bananas over the pudding, followed by a layer of vanilla wafers.
- 9
Continue alternating layers of matcha pudding, sliced bananas, and vanilla wafers until all the ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of pudding.
- 10
Dust the top of the final pudding layer with additional matcha powder.
- 11
Cover the assembled pudding and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until ready to serve, so the layers can fully chill and the wafers can soften slightly.
Notes
The pudding can be chilled overnight before assembly. For the best texture, assemble and refrigerate the finished dessert for at least 4 hours before serving.
