Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb Italian sausage
- 1 small onion (diced)
- 1 green bell pepper (diced)
- 1 red bell pepper (diced)
- 2 tbsp tomato paste (divided)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup chicken bone broth
- 1 tsp cornstarch (for slurry)
- 2 tbsp water (for slurry)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 1 large green cabbage (outer leaves removed)
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley (chopped)
Steps
- 1
Remove any damaged outer cabbage leaves and cut the cabbage into 1-inch-thick steaks or large wedges, keeping the core intact so they hold together.
- 2
In a large saute pan, cook your ground beef and sausage until fully browned and cooked through.
- 3
Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper to the pan.
- 4
Season the meat and vegetables with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- 5
Add half of the tomato paste and a splash of the Worcestershire sauce, then saute until everything is combined and the vegetables begin to soften.
- 6
Add the remaining tomato paste and the chicken bone broth to the pan.
- 7
Stir in the minced garlic and the remaining Worcestershire sauce.
- 8
In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water to create a slurry, then stir it into the pan to help thicken the sauce.
- 9
Add the prepared cabbage to the pan, cover with a lid, and cook, mixing occasionally, until the cabbage has wilted and cooked down to your desired tenderness.
- 10
Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot, optionally over cauliflower rice.
Notes
The creator mentions this is a low-carb version of 'dirty spaghetti'. While the instructions mention adding tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce twice, it is best to divide them or add them as the sauce builds. For the best flavor, ensure the meat is well-browned before adding the liquids.
