Ingredients
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 2 garlic (cloves, finely minced)
- 28 oz crushed tomatoes (canned)
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 0.25 cup fresh basil (chopped)
- salt (to taste)
- black pepper (freshly ground, to taste)
Steps
- 1
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat.
- 2
Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to let it burn.
- 3
Pour the crushed tomatoes into the pan and stir well to combine with the oil and garlic.
- 4
Stir in the dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to taste.
- 5
Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes to let the flavors meld and the sauce thicken slightly.
- 6
Remove from heat and stir in the fresh chopped basil just before serving.
Notes
For a sweeter sauce, you can add a pinch of sugar. If you prefer a smoother texture, you can blend the sauce with an immersion blender before adding the basil.
