Ingredients
- cake batter (prepared according to recipe (half used for base, half for top))
- 0.5 cup thick jam (such as raspberry or strawberry; placed in the center)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted and warm for brushing)
- 0.25 cup granulated sugar (for cinnamon sugar topping)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon (mixed with sugar for topping)
Steps
- 1
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.
- 2
Prepare your cake batter and spoon half of it into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
- 3
Make a small well in the center of the batter.
- 4
Add a generous amount of thick jam right into the center well.
- 5
Cover the jam carefully with the remaining half of the batter, ensuring the jam is fully enclosed.
- 6
Bake the cake until it has risen, is golden brown, and a tester comes out clean (avoiding the jam center), approximately 40-50 minutes.
- 7
While the cake is baking, melt the butter and mix the cinnamon and sugar together in a small bowl.
- 8
Remove the cake from the oven and, while still warm, paint the entire surface of the cake with the warm melted butter.
- 9
Generously sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the top of the buttered cake to create a crunchy, sweet crust.
Notes
Use a high-quality, thick jam to ensure it stays in the center of the cake rather than running to the edges. The melted butter and cinnamon sugar topping are essential for achieving the 'doughnut' texture.
