Ingredients
- 20 g Ground South Indian filter coffee (Use a South Indian filter-coffee blend.)
- 100 ml Water (Heated to 90°C; yields approximately 90 ml decoction.)
- 1.5 tsp Sugar (Per cup; use 1–2 teaspoons according to taste.)
- 82.5 ml Hot milk (Per cup; use 80–85 ml.)
Steps
- 1
Place the 20 g of ground South Indian filter coffee into the upper chamber of a South Indian coffee filter, distributing it evenly without pressing it down too firmly.
- 2
Heat 100 ml of water to 90°C. Pour the hot water evenly over the coffee grounds, fit the lid, and allow the coffee to drip slowly into the lower chamber. The brew should yield approximately 90 ml of concentrated decoction.
- 3
Measure 15–20 ml of the decoction into each serving cup. This amount produces roughly five cups, depending on the serving size and how much decoction is used per cup.
- 4
Add 1–2 teaspoons of sugar to each cup, adjusting the amount to taste.
- 5
Heat the milk until hot but not boiling, then add 80–85 ml to each cup.
- 6
Mix each cup thoroughly, traditionally by stirring or pouring the coffee between a tumbler and a small cup to combine and lightly aerate it. Serve hot.
Notes
The post compares different coffee blends: one nostalgic and bold, one balanced and everyday, and one cleaner and more expressive. The blend determines the style of strength; making the coffee stronger is not the only way to change its character.
