Ingredients

  • 0.75 cup Unsalted butter (melted and warm)
  • 0.75 cup Cocoa powder (bloomed in warm butter)
  • 1.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 3 Eggs (large, room temperature)
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla extract
  • 0.75 cup All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup High-quality chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

Steps

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, combine the melted warm butter and cocoa powder. Whisk them together to 'bloom' the cocoa, which intensifies the chocolate flavor.

  3. 3

Add the granulated sugar to the butter mixture and whisk until well combined.

  4. 4

Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  5. 5

Gently fold in the all-purpose flour and salt using a spatula until just combined; do not overmix.

  6. 6

Fold in the high-quality chocolate chips or chopped chocolate pieces.

  7. 7

Transfer the brownie batter into the prepared lined baking sheet and use a spatula to give it a nice, even spread.

  8. 8

Pop the pan into the oven and bake until the center is just set and no longer jiggly, typically 25-30 minutes. Do not overbake to ensure they remain fudgy.

  9. 9

Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before lifting them out by the parchment paper and slicing.

Notes

For the best results, use the highest quality chocolate you can find, as it defines the flavor of the dish. Blooming the cocoa powder in warm butter is a critical step for depth of flavor.
