Ingredients

  • 1 large onion (Peeled and cut into slices approximately 1 cm thick; separate into rings.)
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tbsp paprika
  • 0.5 tbsp garlic salt
  • 0.5 tbsp onion salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (The amount may vary; use enough to coat all the rings.)
  • vegetable oil for frying (Enough for pan-frying; it should be very hot.)
  • ranch dressing or ketchup (For serving, optional and to taste.)

Steps

  1. 1

Peel the onion and cut it into slices approximately 1 cm thick. Carefully separate the layers to form the rings, taking care not to break them.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, add the flour, paprika, garlic salt, onion salt, and baking powder. Mix the dry ingredients until the seasonings are evenly distributed.

  3. 3

Pour the milk into the dry mixture and whisk until you obtain a smooth, thick batter that is sufficiently adhesive to coat the onion rings. It should not be too runny.

  4. 4

Place the breadcrumbs in a separate plate or bowl, ready for breading.

  5. 5

Dip each onion ring into the flour-and-milk mixture, turning it to coat completely and allowing the excess to drip off.

  6. 6

Immediately coat the battered ring with breadcrumbs. Press gently so the breadcrumbs adhere to the entire surface. Repeat with all the rings.

  7. 7

Heat enough vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until very hot. To prevent the breading from coming off, the oil should begin browning the coating on contact, but it should not smoke.

  8. 8

Fry the rings in batches without overcrowding the skillet, for approximately 30 seconds per side or until golden brown and crispy. Adjust the heat according to the oil temperature, as the cooking time may vary.

  9. 9

Remove the rings with tongs or a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve immediately with ranch dressing or ketchup.

Notes

The recipe indicates frying for approximately 30 seconds per side, although the time depends on the oil temperature and the skillet. Fry in batches to keep the breading crispy.
