Ingredients
- 1 cup Bacon fat (rendered from cooked bacon, slightly cooled)
- 1 cup Water (enough to fill the remainder of the jar)
Steps
- 1
After cooking bacon, allow the rendered fat in the pan to cool down slightly so it is safe to handle but still liquid.
- 2
Pour the liquid bacon fat into a glass jar.
- 3
Fill the remainder of the jar with water.
- 4
Secure the lid on the jar tightly and shake vigorously to combine the fat and water.
- 5
Place the jar in the refrigerator upside down and let it sit overnight.
- 6
The next morning, the fat will have solidified at the top (which was the bottom while upside down). Carefully open the jar over a sink to pour out the water containing the sediment and bacon bits.
- 7
Remove the clean, solidified disc of bacon fat to use for cooking.
Notes
Be careful not to pour the greasy water down the drain to avoid plumbing issues; strain the bits out or dispose of the water outdoors/in the trash if possible. Clarified fat lasts longer in the fridge than fat containing meat particles.
