Ingredients

  • 1 chicken breast (medium, sliced into thin strips)
  • 0.5 cup mixed bell peppers (red and green, sliced)
  • 0.5 yellow or red onion (medium, sliced into wedges)
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil or sesame oil (to sear the chicken and veggies)
  • fresh cilantro (finely chopped, for garnish)
  • 1.5 tbsp soy sauce or coconut aminos (for rich, umami depth)
  • 0.5 tbsp honey or maple syrup (for signature glossy stickiness)
  • 1 garlic (clove, finely minced)
  • 0.5 tsp fresh ginger (grated)
  • 0.5 tsp freshly cracked black pepper (adjust to preferred heat level)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (mixed with 1 tbsp water to thicken)

Steps

  1. 1

Prepare the Sticky Black Pepper Glaze by whisking together the soy sauce (or coconut aminos), honey (or maple syrup), minced garlic, grated ginger, and freshly cracked black pepper in a small bowl.

  2. 2

In a separate small container, mix 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water to create a slurry; set aside.

  3. 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil or sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.

  4. 4

Add the chicken strips to the hot pan and sear until golden-brown and cooked through, then remove from the pan and set aside.

  5. 5

In the same pan, add the sliced bell peppers and onion wedges. Sauté until the vegetables are tender-crisp and have a slight golden char.

  6. 6

Return the cooked chicken to the skillet with the vegetables.

  7. 7

Pour the prepared glaze over the chicken and vegetables, tossing to coat evenly.

  8. 8

Stir in the cornstarch slurry and continue to cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens into a beautiful, glossy coating.

  9. 9

Garnish with finely chopped fresh cilantro and serve immediately.
