Weights are estimates. Together, the ingredients weigh about 325 g before cooking, which is about 165 g per serving.
Steps
Cut the crusts off the sliced bread with scissors. Cut the edges slightly thicker and the corners slightly thinner to make them less likely to break.
Loosely roll the cut bread crusts into spirals and secure them with toothpicks. If they tend to fall apart, use additional toothpicks to hold them in place.
Melt the salted butter in a frying pan.
Place the rolled bread crusts in the frying pan and cook over medium heat until crispy on both sides. Once cooked, remove them from the pan temporarily.
Add the sugar and water to the same frying pan and heat over medium heat. Cook until the sugar has dissolved.
Once the sugar has dissolved, return the cooked bread crust rolls to the frying pan and coat them evenly with the syrup. Serve.
Notes
If the bread is dry and difficult to roll, microwave it for 10 seconds to soften it. The recipe recommends cutting the edges thicker and the corners slightly thinner, then rolling the crusts loosely. Specific cooking times and doneness indicators are not provided.
