Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Cooking oil (cooking oil)
  • 500 g Ground beef (ground beef)
  • 150 g Red onions (finely diced red onions)
  • 150 g Carrots (finely diced carrots)
  • 100 g Celery (finely diced celery)
  • 2 Garlic cloves (finely minced)
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste (tomato paste)
  • 400 g Diced tomatoes (canned diced tomatoes)
  • 400 g Tomato purée (tomato purée)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Oregano (dried)
  • 0.5 tsp Pepper (black pepper)
  • 100 g Shredded cheese (shredded cheese)
  • 400 g Frozen croquettes (frozen potato croquettes)

Steps

  1. 1

Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a large pan or skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. 2

Add 500g of ground beef to the pan and sauté until browned and crumbly.

  3. 3

Add the finely diced red onions, carrots, and celery to the meat. Sauté for several minutes until the vegetables begin to soften.

  4. 4

Stir in the minced garlic and 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, cooking for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  5. 5

Pour in 400g of diced tomatoes and 400g of tomato purée. Season with 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon oregano, and 0.5 teaspoon pepper.

  6. 6

Simmer the bolognese sauce for about 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.

  7. 7

Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F).

  8. 8

Transfer the bolognese sauce into a suitable baking dish.

  9. 9

Arrange 400g of frozen croquettes in a single layer on top of the sauce.

  10. 10

Evenly sprinkle 100g of shredded cheese over the croquettes.

  11. 11

Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 20-25 minutes, or until the croquettes are golden brown and crispy and the cheese is melted and bubbling.

Notes

For extra crispiness, ensure the croquettes are not submerged too deeply in the sauce. You can use any melting cheese like Gouda, Emmental, or Mozzarella.
