Ingredients
- 1 oz London dry gin
- 1 oz Campari
- 1 oz sweet vermouth
- 1 strip orange peel (for garnish)
Steps
- 1
Add the London dry gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth to a mixing glass.
- 2
Fill the mixing glass three-quarters full with ice.
- 3
Stir the mixture until it is just combined and thoroughly chilled, about 15 seconds.
- 4
Strain the cocktail into a chilled old-fashioned glass that is either half-filled with ice or contains one large (2-inch) ice cube.
- 5
Pinch the strip of orange peel over the drink to express the citrus oils, then rub the outer edge of the glass with the peel.
- 6
Garnish the drink with the orange peel and serve immediately.
Notes
A single large (2-inch) ice cube looks dramatic in the rocks glass, but alternatively, you can fill the glass halfway with smaller ice cubes of your choice. The Negroni is considered a classic aperitivo, or palate opener, and pairs perfectly with savory appetizers like olives and cheese.
