Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 0.5 cup light brown sugar (packed)
- 0.5 cup butter (melted)
- 0.25 cup oil (neutral vegetable oil)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 0.75 cup all purpose flour
- 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 0.5 tsp instant espresso powder
- 0.5 cup dark chocolate (chopped; measure with your heart)
- 0.5 cup Nutella (for layering)
Steps
- 1
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the 1/2 cup melted butter, 1 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup light brown sugar until well combined.
- 3
Mix in the 2 large eggs, 1 egg yolk, 1 tsp vanilla extract, and 1/4 cup oil.
- 4
Add in the 3/4 cup all purpose flour, 1/2 tsp espresso powder, and 1/2 cup cocoa powder.
- 5
Mix the batter until well combined and no dry streaks of flour remain.
- 6
If using, fold in the chopped dark chocolate.
- 7
Spread half of the brownie mixture into a lined or greased 8x8-inch baking pan.
- 8
Spread a layer of Nutella evenly over the batter in the pan.
- 9
Layer the remaining half of the brownie batter on top of the Nutella, spreading it to the edges.
- 10
Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes.
- 11
Allow to cool before slicing and enjoying.
Notes
For the best texture, ensure you don't overbake the brownies; a toothpick inserted should come out with a few moist crumbs. The espresso powder is optional but highly recommended as it intensifies the chocolate flavor without making the brownies taste like coffee.
