Ingredients

  • 1 sweet potato
  • 4 regular potatoes
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (optional; can be skipped for extra crispiness)
  • salt (to taste)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt (for spice mix)
  • 1 tsp paprika powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder

Steps

  1. 1

Wash the sweet potato and regular potatoes thoroughly.

  2. 2

Cut the potatoes using a mandolin to ensure they are sliced as thin as possible.

  3. 3

Soak the potato slices in a bowl of ice-cold water for a few minutes to remove excess starch.

  4. 4

Remove the slices from the water and dry them completely using a clean kitchen towel.

  5. 5

Place a piece of parchment paper on the microwave turntable or a microwave-safe plate. Arrange the potato slices on the parchment paper in a single layer, ensuring they do not touch each other. Do not use any metal or aluminum in the microwave.

  6. 6

Microwave the slices for 5 to 7 minutes, or until they are crispy and slightly golden. Note: Cooking times may vary based on microwave wattage; some may be ready in as little as 3.5 minutes.

  7. 7

While the chips are cooking, combine the garlic powder, salt, paprika, and onion powder in a small bowl to create the spice mix.

  8. 8

Remove the crispy chips from the microwave, toss with the olive oil (if using) and the spice mix, and enjoy immediately.

Notes

For maximum crispiness, the author and commenters suggest skipping the oil entirely, as oil can sometimes lead to sogginess in the microwave. Ensure slices are bone-dry before microwaving.
