A spot-on recreation of the iconic In-N-Out 'spread.' This creamy, tangy, and slightly sweet sauce is the essential component for making authentic-tasting burgers and 'Animal Style' fries at home.

Steps

  1. In a small to medium-sized mixing bowl, add 1/2 cup of mayonnaise, 3 tablespoons of ketchup, and 2 tablespoons of sweet relish.

  2. Add 1 1/2 teaspoons of granulated sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of distilled white vinegar to the bowl.

  3. Whisk or stir the ingredients together vigorously until the sugar is fully dissolved and the sauce is completely smooth and uniform in color.

  4. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the sauce to an airtight container.

  5. Place the sauce in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This resting period allows the flavors to meld and the sugar to fully incorporate into the fats of the mayo.

Notes

For the best results, do not skip the 30-minute chilling time. This sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. Use it on burgers, as a dip for fries, or even as a dressing for a chopped salad.
