Ingredients

  • 2 ripe bananas (mashed)
  • 0.333 cup cacao powder
  • 0.25 cup maple syrup or honey (Use either maple syrup or honey.)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 0.25 cup peanut butter or almond butter (Use either peanut butter or almond butter.)
  • chocolate chips (A handful, approximately 45 g.)

Steps

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a small baking pan by lining it with parchment paper or lightly greasing it so the brownies can be removed easily.

  2. 2

Peel the ripe bananas and mash them in a mixing bowl until mostly smooth. A few small lumps are fine.

  3. 3

Add the cacao powder, maple syrup or honey, vanilla extract, sea salt, baking soda, and peanut or almond butter to the mashed bananas.

  4. 4

Stir until all the ingredients are fully combined and the batter is smooth and evenly colored, with no visible pockets of dry cacao powder or baking soda.

  5. 5

Fold in the chocolate chips, reserving a few to scatter over the top if desired.

  6. 6

Transfer the batter to the prepared baking pan and spread it into an even layer. Sprinkle any reserved chocolate chips over the surface.

  7. 7

Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes, until the brownies are set around the edges and the center is no longer wet.

  8. 8

Let the brownies cool before slicing and serving. Cooling helps the flourless brownies set and makes them easier to cut.

Notes

The source describes these as brownies without flour or butter and says they do not taste strongly of banana. Use very ripe bananas for sweetness and moisture. The chocolate-chip amount is listed as a handful, so the nutrition estimate uses approximately 45 g.
