Ingredients
- 2 lb chicken wings
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp baking powder (helps achieve crispiness in the air fryer)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp all purpose seasoning
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 0.5 cup fresh orange juice (can use 1 cup total orange juice)
- 0.5 cup orange juice (smooth/bottled)
- 1 orange zest (zest of 1 orange)
- 1 tbsp brown sugar (or honey)
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sriracha
- 1 tsp chili flakes
- fresh chili (chopped, to taste)
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 4 garlic (minced)
- 1 tsp fresh ginger (grated)
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp cornstarch (mixed with a little water to make a slurry)
Steps
- 1
Preheat your air fryer to 200°C (400°F).
- 2
In a large bowl, combine the chicken wings with 2 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp baking powder, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp black pepper, 1 tsp all purpose seasoning, 1 tsp garlic powder, and 1 tsp smoked paprika. Toss until the wings are evenly coated.
- 3
Place the wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook at 200°C for 22-25 minutes, flipping the wings halfway through the cooking time to ensure even crispiness.
- 4
While the wings are cooking, prepare the sauce. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the orange juice, orange zest, brown sugar (or honey), soy sauce, sriracha, chili flakes, chopped fresh chili, rice vinegar, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
- 5
Add 1 tbsp of butter to the sauce and stir until melted.
- 6
Whisk together 1 tsp cornstarch with a small amount of water to create a slurry. Pour the slurry into the simmering sauce and stir constantly until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
- 7
Once the wings are finished cooking and crispy, transfer them to a large bowl. Pour the sticky orange sauce over the wings and toss until every wing is thoroughly coated.
- 8
Serve immediately while hot and sticky.
Notes
The baking powder is a key ingredient for air frying as it helps draw moisture out of the skin, making it extra crispy without deep frying. You can adjust the amount of sriracha and chili flakes to suit your heat preference.
