Ingredients
- 2 cup water
- 2 cup chicken broth
- 2 cup quick cooking grits
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tsp sriracha
- salt (to taste)
- pepper (to taste)
- 8 tbsp unsalted butter
- 0.5 lb smoky bacon
- 1 lb medium shrimp (shelled and deveined)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 4 eggs (to be fried)
- 0.5 cup scallions
- 6 tbsp sesame seeds
Steps
- 1
Bring the water and chicken broth to a simmer in your cooking pot over a medium-high cooking fire or stove.
- 2
Slowly add the quick cooking grits while stirring.
- 3
Simmer for 5 minutes then turn the heat to low.
- 4
Add the soy sauce, salt, pepper, and sriracha and mix.
- 5
Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 20 minutes or until the grits are no longer grainy.
- 6
Add the butter and stir until melted. Set aside, covered.
- 7
Toss the shrimp in the olive oil and add some salt.
- 8
Fry your bacon in a pan, remove the strips, then chop.
- 9
Wipe out most of the grease from the pan, then add the shrimp. Sear for 1 to 2 minutes, flip, then sear until they are just barely undercooked, about another 1 to 2 minutes. They'll finish cooking from their residual heat.
- 10
Fry your eggs to taste in the same pan without wiping out the grease.
- 11
Serve the shrimp, eggs, and bacon on top of the grits, garnished with the scallions and sesame seeds.
- 12
Resume adventuring!
Notes
This recipe is inspired by the Shrimp and Grits recipe from the Momofuku cookbook, simplified and adjusted with new flavors for a Dungeons and Dragons theme. The savory bacon and eggs play with the clean seafood taste of shrimp and the Asian zing.
