Ingredients

  • 2 baking potatoes (Medium to large; choose potatoes of similar size)
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • butter (Optional, for serving)
  • shredded cheese (Optional, for serving)
  • chives (Chopped; optional, for serving)

Steps

  1. 1

Scrub the potatoes clean, then pat them completely dry. Dry skins help them crisp.

  2. 2

Rub the potato skins with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.

  3. 3

Preheat the air fryer to 390°F (200°C).

  4. 4

Arrange the potatoes in the air-fryer basket with space between them.

  5. 5

Air fry for 30 minutes, turning the potatoes halfway through.

  6. 6

Check for tenderness with a fork or carefully squeeze with tongs. If the potatoes are still firm, cook for another 5–15 minutes, until tender.

  7. 7

Let the potatoes rest for 5 minutes. Cut them open and fluff the insides with a fork.

  8. 8

Add black pepper and, if desired, butter, shredded cheese, or chopped chives before serving.

Notes

For best results, choose potatoes of similar size so they finish cooking at roughly the same time. Cooking time may vary with potato size; check tenderness and extend cooking by 5–15 minutes if needed.
