Ingredients
- 1 cup fine couscous (Use fine couscous, not pearl couscous.)
- 1 cup hot water (Use very hot water; maintain the 1:1 ratio with the couscous.)
- olive oil (A little bit, approximately 1 teaspoon; the source does not specify an exact amount.)
Steps
- 1
Measure 1 cup of fine couscous and 1 cup of hot water. The couscous-to-water ratio should be 1:1.
- 2
Place the hot water in a saucepan and add a little olive oil. Bring the water to a hot, steaming temperature if needed, but do not let it continue boiling once the couscous is added.
- 3
Pour the fine couscous into the hot water, then immediately turn off the heat.
- 4
Cover the saucepan tightly and let the couscous stand for 15 minutes. During this time, the couscous will absorb the water and become tender.
- 5
Remove the lid and fluff the couscous gently with a fork, separating the grains until light and loose. Serve immediately, preferably alongside tagine.
Notes
The creator specifically recommends fine couscous and a 1:1 couscous-to-water ratio. Couscous is a pasta made from North African semolina rather than a grain.
