Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 12 oz smoked sausage (sliced lengthwise and cut in 1/2-inch pieces)
- 1 onion (finely chopped)
- 1 bell pepper (finely chopped)
- 1 jalapeno pepper (finely chopped)
- 2 oz baked beans (28 ounce cans)
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 2 tbsp yellow mustard
- 0.25 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp hot sauce
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 0.5 tsp kosher salt (or to taste)
- 0.5 tsp ground black pepper
- 2 green onions (sliced for garnish)
Steps
- 1
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- 2
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, crumbling with a spoon until browned and finely crumbled.
- 3
Drain the beef and set it aside. Return the skillet to the stove over medium-high heat.
- 4
Add the sliced smoked sausage to the skillet and cook, stirring often, until beginning to brown and the fat has rendered, about 3 minutes.
- 5
Add the chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook, stirring often, for 1 minute.
- 6
Transfer the sausage and vegetable mixture to a large bowl.
- 7
Add the cooked ground beef to the bowl along with the jalapeno, baked beans, barbecue sauce, yellow mustard, brown sugar, garlic powder, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper.
- 8
Stir until well combined and pour the mixture into a 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover the dish tightly with foil.
- 9
Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
- 10
Uncover the dish and continue to bake until the beans are browned and bubbly, about 15 to 20 minutes more.
- 11
Let the dish stand for 10 minutes before serving. Serve topped with sliced green onions if desired.
Notes
Letting the beans stand for 10 minutes after baking allows the sauce to thicken slightly before serving.
