Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef (Preferably ground twice.)
  • 1 onion (Small, grated or finely chopped; squeeze out excess liquid if very moist.)
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup milk (Use it to moisten the breadcrumbs.)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp ground red pepper (It can be red pepper flakes or ground red chili, to taste.)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 0.25 cup ketchup (For the sauce.)
  • 0.25 cup mayonnaise (For the sauce.)
  • 0.25 cup pickles (Finely chopped, for the sauce.)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (For cooking the slices.)

Steps

  1. 1

Place the breadcrumbs in a bowl and add the milk. Mix and let stand for a few minutes until the breadcrumbs are hydrated.

  2. 2

Add the ground beef, onion, salt, black pepper, red pepper, and oregano. Knead with your hands until you have a uniform, compact mixture.

  3. 3

Shape the mixture into a compact cylinder or block. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and press it to remove air pockets.

  4. 4

Place the block in the freezer for at least 4 hours, until very firm but still sliceable. This preparation allows you to cook the doner whenever you need it.

  5. 5

Remove the meat from the freezer and cut it into very thin slices with a sharp knife. If it is too hard, wait a few minutes before slicing.

  6. 6

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil.

  7. 7

Place the meat slices in the skillet without overlapping them. Cook them in batches if necessary, for approximately 3 to 5 minutes per side, until browned around the edges and fully cooked in the center.

  8. 8

To prepare the sauce, mix the ketchup, mayonnaise, and chopped pickles in a small bowl.

  9. 9

Serve the hot doner slices with the sauce. You can place them in pita bread or a tortilla, although the accompaniment is not specified in the post.

Notes

The post indicates that it is best to use ground beef that has been ground twice and freeze it for at least 4 hours before cooking. The quantities and detailed method were estimated because the original description only lists the ingredients and does not provide measurements or complete instructions. Cook the ground beef until it reaches 71 °C in the center.
