Ingredients
- 210 g yellow Maseca (masa harina) (yellow corn flour)
- 315 g water (approximately 1.3 cups)
- 7 g fine salt (approx. 1.25 tsp)
Steps
- 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine the 210g of yellow Maseca and 7g of fine salt.
- 2
Gradually add the 315g of water to the dry ingredients.
- 3
Knead the mixture by hand until a smooth, cohesive dough forms that does not stick to your hands.
- 4
Divide the dough into small, golf-ball-sized rounds.
- 5
Prepare a tortilla press using a plastic liner (such as a Ziploc bag cut through the sides with the bottom intact) to prevent sticking.
- 6
Place a dough ball in the center of the press and flatten into a thin disc.
- 7
Heat a dry skillet or comal over medium-high heat.
- 8
Cook the tortilla for about 30-60 seconds on the first side, flip, and cook until it begins to puff and brown slightly.
Notes
For the best results with a tortilla press, use a heavy-duty plastic bag (like a Ziploc) cut open to line the press surfaces. This ensures the dough releases cleanly without tearing.
