Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup coarse ground coffee (coarse grind is essential for French press)
  • 2 cup cold water (filtered water preferred)
  • ice cubes (for serving)
  • milk or creamer (to taste; author uses a splash of milk and flavored creamer)

Steps

  1. 1

Add 1/2 cup of coarse ground coffee to the bottom of a French press.

  2. 2

Pour 2 cups of cold water over the coffee grounds.

  3. 3

Place the lid on the French press but do not plunge it down yet.

  4. 4

Let the coffee steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours to extract the flavor.

  5. 5

After steeping, slowly press the plunger down to separate the grounds from the liquid coffee.

  6. 6

Fill a glass with ice cubes.

  7. 7

Pour the cold brew coffee over the ice, leaving room for milk.

  8. 8

Add a splash of milk and your favorite coffee creamer to taste. Stir and enjoy.

Notes

Using a coarse grind prevents the coffee from becoming too bitter and ensures the French press filter can effectively catch the grounds. You can adjust the strength by varying the steeping time between 12 and 24 hours.
