Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1 tsp simple syrup
  • 0.125 tsp old-fashioned aromatic bitters
  • 0.125 tsp citrus bitters
  • 1 orange peel (strip, for garnishing)
  • 1 cocktail cherries (for garnishing)
  • ice (for mixing and serving)

Steps

  1. 1

Add 2 ounces of bourbon, 1 teaspoon of simple syrup, 1/8 teaspoon of aromatic bitters, and 1/8 teaspoon of citrus bitters to a mixing glass.

  2. 2

Fill the mixing glass three-quarters full with ice.

  3. 3

Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture until it is just combined and thoroughly chilled, about 30 seconds.

  4. 4

Strain the cocktail into a chilled rocks glass that is either half-filled with ice or containing one large ice cube.

  5. 5

Pinch the orange peel over the drink to release its oils and rub the outer edge of the glass with the peel.

  6. 6

Garnish the drink with the orange peel and cocktail cherries, then serve.

Notes

If you wish, you can use only old-fashioned aromatic bitters in this cocktail for a total of 1/4 teaspoon. Using simple syrup instead of a sugar cube ensures consistency of flavor and prevents gritty undissolved sugar at the bottom of the glass.
