Ingredients
- 1 cup butter (2 sticks, melted)
- 1.5 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp orange extract (for the batter)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for the batter)
- 0.5 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 2 cup all purpose flour
- 1 cup white chocolate chips
- 0.75 cup Craisins (dried cranberries for the batter)
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
- 1.5 cup powdered sugar
- 0.5 tsp orange extract (for the frosting)
- 0.5 tsp vanilla extract (for the frosting)
- 0.333 cup Craisins (roughly chopped, for topping)
- 2 squares white baking chocolate (or almond bark, melted for drizzle)
Steps
- 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- 2
Line a 15x10 or 13x9 inch jelly roll pan or rimmed cookie sheet with parchment paper. For easier removal, ensure the parchment paper overhangs on the sides.
- 3
In a large bowl, beat together the melted butter and brown sugar over medium speed with an electric mixer.
- 4
Add in the eggs, 1 tsp orange extract, and 1 tsp vanilla extract and beat until mixed well.
- 5
Add in the ground ginger, baking powder, salt, and flour, beating until just blended. Take care not to overmix.
- 6
Stir in the white chocolate chips and 3/4 cup Craisins by hand.
- 7
Spread the batter evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- 8
Bake in the preheated oven for 18-22 minutes until the bars are set and golden brown at the edges. Do not overbake or the bars will become hard.
- 9
Remove from the oven and place the pan on a wire rack to cool completely before topping with frosting.
- 10
To make the frosting, beat the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar together with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
- 11
Add 1/2 tsp orange extract and 1/2 tsp vanilla extract and mix well.
- 12
Top the cooled bars with the frosting, spreading it into an even layer.
- 13
Sprinkle the 1/3 cup chopped Craisins over the frosting.
- 14
Drizzle the melted white chocolate over the top using a fork. Dip the fork into the chocolate then shake it gently over the bars to create streaks.
- 15
Optional: Place the bars in the refrigerator for about an hour to help them set up before cutting.
- 16
Cut the bars into triangles and serve.
Notes
Orange extract is essential for the authentic Starbucks flavor. If you cannot find it, substitute with 1 teaspoon of orange zest and 1 teaspoon of orange juice. For the best texture, ensure the bars are completely cool before frosting. Lining the pan with overhanging parchment paper allows you to lift the entire block of bars out for easier slicing.
