Ingredients
- 500 g ground beef
- 1 onion (Finely chopped)
- 2.5 garlic cloves (Minced; use 2 to 3 cloves)
- 2.5 tomatoes (Chopped; use 2 to 3 tomatoes)
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese (Shredded; spread generously over the top)
- 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese (Finely grated; spread over the top)
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- salt (To taste)
- black pepper (To taste)
- fresh parsley (Chopped, for sprinkling)
- 1.5 tbsp cooking oil (Use for sautéing)
Steps
- 1
Preheat the oven to 190°C / 375°F.
- 2
Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until softened and fragrant, about 3 to 4 minutes.
- 3
Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until it is thoroughly browned and no longer pink, about 6 to 8 minutes.
- 4
Season the browned beef with salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. Stir well so the seasonings are evenly distributed.
- 5
Add the chopped tomatoes and tomato sauce. Stir to combine and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, until the tomatoes soften and the mixture is hot and slightly thickened.
- 6
Transfer the beef and tomato mixture to a baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
- 7
Sprinkle the mozzarella evenly over the beef mixture, then spread the Parmesan over the mozzarella.
- 8
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the cheese is fully melted, golden in spots, and bubbling around the edges.
- 9
Remove the bake from the oven and sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley. Serve hot.
Notes
The source does not specify a baking-dish size; use a medium casserole dish, approximately 9 × 13 inches. For food safety, cook ground beef to an internal temperature of 160°F / 71°C before baking.
