Ingredients
- 0.5 lb pork sausage
- 0.75 tsp Italian seasoning
- 0.125 tsp salt
- 0.125 tsp black pepper
- 0.25 tsp garlic powder
- 0.25 tsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp olive oil (Or another oil of choice)
- 0.333 cup water (Preferably reserved pasta water; use to deglaze the pan)
- 7 oz tomato basil sauce (One 7-ounce jar)
- 0.125 tsp red pepper flakes (Use the lower or higher amount according to preference)
- 0.333 cup heavy cream
- 2.5 cups Ditalini pasta (Cooked)
- 0.333 cup grated Parmesan (Plus extra for serving, if desired)
- olive oil or butter (Optional; toss with the cooked pasta to prevent sticking)
- grated Parmesan (Extra for serving)
Steps
- 1
Add the pork sausage, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to a bowl. Mix until the seasonings are evenly distributed.
- 2
Roll the seasoned sausage into meatballs about 1/2 inch in diameter or smaller.
- 3
Boil water and cook the Ditalini pasta according to the package directions. Reserve 1/3 cup of the pasta water before draining. If desired, toss the cooked pasta with a little olive oil or butter so it does not stick.
- 4
Heat a pan over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil and let it warm for 15 seconds.
- 5
Add the mini pork meatballs to the pan. Immediately toss or shake the pan to keep them moving, and continue for roughly 5 minutes, or until the meatballs are golden brown. Do not allow them to sit undisturbed for longer than 1 minute, since a utensil may break them apart.
- 6
Add the reserved pasta water to the pan to deglaze it, loosening any browned bits from the bottom.
- 7
Add the tomato-basil sauce and red pepper flakes. Simmer over medium-low to medium heat for 6–8 minutes, stirring continuously.
- 8
Stir in the heavy cream. Allow the sauce to reduce if necessary.
- 9
Stir in the grated Parmesan.
- 10
Add the cooked Ditalini pasta to the sauce and stir to coat. Serve with extra Parmesan, and optionally with Caesar salad or garlic bread.
Notes
The source does not specify the pasta cooking time beyond following the package directions. The optional pasta-tossing fat and extra serving Parmesan are included because they are explicitly mentioned. Suggested accompaniments are Caesar salad or garlic bread.
