Weights are estimates. Together, the ingredients weigh about 770 g before cooking, which is about 110 g per serving.

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190 °C) (190°C (375 °F)). Line a baking pan with parchment paper.

  2. Put the softened salted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a mixing bowl. Cream them together with a mixer.

  3. Add the egg and vanilla to the bowl. Mix, scraping down the sides of the bowl.

  4. Add the all-purpose flour, yellow cake mix, cornstarch, baking soda, and a little salt. Mix slowly until a dough forms.

  5. Scoop the dough into ⅓-cup portions and roll each portion into a ball. Place them on the prepared pan and flatten each slightly. The batch makes about seven cookies; bake in batches if they do not all fit, keeping the remaining dough aside.

  6. Bake at 375°F (190 °C) (190°C (375 °F)) for 9–11 minutes, until the edges begin to turn golden brown.

  7. While the cookies bake, put the unsalted butter for the glaze in a saucepan and melt it.

  8. Add the powdered sugar to the melted butter and whisk until the sugar melts and the mixture looks thick and syrupy.

  9. Add the butter extract and vanilla extract to the glaze. Whisk until fully combined.

  10. Gently brush the glaze over the cookies while they are still hot.

  11. Serve the glazed cookies and taste.

Notes

The creator describes this as half of a recipe credited to Cooking with Carly. They use butter extract and vanilla extract in place of the original recipe's butter-vanilla emulsion. The transcript does not specify how long to bake the remaining cookie dough; it says the batch made about seven cookies, with six fitting on the pan.
