Ingredients

  • 2 apples (Thinly sliced; choose firm apples, preferably red, for a more striking visual effect.)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (Melted, for brushing the pastry and apples.)
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (Unrolled and cut into 6 strips.)
  • 2 tbsp sugar (To mix with the cinnamon.)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (To mix with the sugar.)

Steps

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 190 °C (375 °F). Lightly grease a muffin tin so the roses can be removed easily after baking.

  2. 2

Wash the apples, remove the cores, then slice them very thinly. The slices should be flexible enough to bend without breaking.

  3. 3

Unroll the puff pastry and cut it into 6 evenly sized strips.

  4. 4

Brush each pastry strip with the melted butter. Mix the sugar and cinnamon, then lightly sprinkle the mixture over the pastry.

  5. 5

Arrange the apple slices along the upper half of each strip, overlapping them slightly and leaving their rounded edges extending beyond the top edge.

  6. 6

Fold the lower half of each pastry strip over the base of the apples. Then roll each strip from one end to form a rose, without rolling the pastry too tightly.

  7. 7

Place each rose in a muffin-tin cavity. If desired, brush the tops with the remaining butter and sprinkle with a little of the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

  8. 8

Bake at 190 °C (375 °F) for 20 minutes, until the pastry is puffed and golden brown and the apples are tender around the edges.

  9. 9

Let cool for a few minutes in the tin before carefully removing the roses. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

The quantities were not specified in the publication; they are estimated for 6 roses. To prevent the apples from breaking while rolling, slice them very thinly. Monitor the baking, as the time may vary depending on the thickness of the pastry and the oven's power.
