Ingredients
- 1 sheet Puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 3 Apples (thinly sliced; Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)
- 2 tbsp Granulated sugar (plus extra for sprinkling on the crust)
- 0.5 tsp Cinnamon (ground)
- 1 tbsp Unsalted butter (melted, for brushing)
- 1 Egg (beaten for egg wash)
- 2 tbsp Apricot jam (optional, for glazing after baking)
Steps
- 1
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet into a rough circle or rectangle about 1/8-inch thick.
- 3
Transfer the pastry to the prepared baking sheet.
- 4
In a small bowl, toss the thinly sliced apples with 2 tablespoons of sugar and the ground cinnamon until evenly coated.
- 5
Arrange the apple slices in the center of the pastry, leaving a 2-inch border around the edges. You can overlap them in a decorative spiral or rows.
- 6
Fold the edges of the pastry up and over the apples, pleating the dough as you go to create a rustic border. The center should remain open.
- 7
Brush the pastry border with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with a little extra sugar for crunch.
- 8
Brush the exposed apples with the melted butter.
- 9
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the pastry is deep golden brown and the apples are tender.
- 10
Optional: Warm the apricot jam with a splash of water and brush it over the hot apples immediately after removing from the oven for a professional shine.
- 11
Let the galette cool on the pan for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. If the puff pastry gets too warm while working, chill it in the fridge for 10 minutes before baking to ensure maximum flakiness.
