Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion (diced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 0.5 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
  • salt and black pepper (to taste)
  • 1 lb shelf-stable potato gnocchi (use uncooked)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (use 1 tablespoon for the gnocchi and the remaining 1 tablespoon for the beef mixture)
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley (finely chopped)
  • 2 tbsp Parmesan cheese (grated; optional)

Steps

  1. 1

Heat the olive oil and 1 tablespoon of the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. 2

Add the uncooked potato gnocchi in a single layer. Pan-fry for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden-brown and crispy on the outside.

  3. 3

Season the crispy gnocchi with the garlic powder. Remove it from the skillet and set it aside.

  4. 4

In the same skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion for 6–8 minutes, until the beef is browned.

  5. 5

Drain any excess fat from the skillet.

  6. 6

Stir the minced garlic and tomato paste into the beef mixture. Sauté for 1 minute, until fragrant.

  7. 7

Add the beef broth, Italian seasoning, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 3–4 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly.

  8. 8

Stir the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter into the meat mixture.

  9. 9

Return the crispy gnocchi to the skillet and toss gently so every piece is coated in the sauce and butter.

  10. 10

    Heat through for 1–2 minutes.

  11. 11

Top with the chopped fresh parsley and optional grated Parmesan cheese. Serve hot straight from the skillet.
