Ingredients
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 yellow onion (large, finely diced)
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tbsp ketchup (for the beef)
- 1 tsp yellow mustard (for the beef)
- 0.5 tsp garlic powder (for the beef)
- 0.5 tsp onion powder (for the beef)
- 0.5 tsp paprika (for the beef)
- salt and freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
- 1 bag potato chips (your favorite brand)
- 2 yellow American cheese (slices)
- 0.25 cup chopped pickles (for layering)
- 1 tbsp fresh dill (chopped, for garnish)
- 3 tbsp mayonnaise (for the sauce)
- 1 tbsp ketchup (for the sauce)
- 1 tsp yellow mustard (for the sauce)
- 1 tsp pickle brine (or more to taste)
- 2 tbsp chopped pickles (for the sauce)
- 0.25 tsp onion powder (for the sauce)
- 0.25 tsp garlic powder (for the sauce)
- salt (pinch for the sauce)
- paprika (pinch for the sauce)
Steps
- 1
Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium-low heat.
- 2
Add the finely diced large yellow onion to the skillet and sauté until soft and caramelized, about 5 minutes. Transfer the onions to a bowl and set aside.
- 3
Add 1 pound of ground beef to the same skillet and cook until browned, crumbly, and cooked through, about 5 minutes.
- 4
Drain the excess fat from the skillet.
- 5
Stir in 1 tablespoon ketchup, 1 teaspoon yellow mustard, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon paprika, salt, and pepper with a splash of water. Allow to cook for 1 more minute, then remove from heat.
- 6
Lay the potato chip bag on a work surface. Use a sharp knife to carefully poke a hole in the center. Cut the bag in criss-cross sections and fold open the flaps to expose the chips.
- 7
Arrange the hot seasoned beef on top of the chips inside the bag.
- 8
Layer 2 slices of yellow American cheese, the caramelized onions, and 1/4 cup chopped pickles on top of the beef.
- 9
In a small bowl, whisk together 3 tablespoons mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon ketchup, 1 teaspoon yellow mustard, 1 teaspoon pickle brine, 2 tablespoons chopped pickles, 1/4 teaspoon onion powder, 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of paprika to make the sauce.
- 10
Drizzle the prepared sauce over the walking nachos. Garnish with 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill and enjoy immediately.
Notes
For the best experience, serve immediately while the beef is hot to help melt the American cheese slices.
