Ingredients
- 1 Apple (chopped)
- 3 Cinnamon sticks
- 1 cup Dark brown sugar
- 1 cup Water
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract
- 1 cup Milk (per serving)
- 2 oz Espresso (2 shots per serving)
- Ice (for serving)
Steps
- 1
In a small saucepan, combine the chopped apple, three cinnamon sticks, and one cup of dark brown sugar.
- 2
Toast the mixture on medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar begins to melt and the mixture starts to look wet.
- 3
Add one cup of water to the saucepan.
- 4
Bring the liquid to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer.
- 5
Cover the pot and let it simmer for 20 minutes to steep the flavors.
- 6
Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a storage container to remove the apple chunks and cinnamon sticks.
- 7
Allow the syrup to cool slightly, then stir in one teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- 8
To assemble the drink, fill a glass with ice.
- 9
Add the desired amount of apple syrup (typically 1-2 tablespoons) and milk to the glass.
- 10
Top with two shots of espresso and stir to combine.
Notes
The syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for 10 to 14 days. Although Starbucks calls this a macchiato, it is constructed like a standard latte with milk and flavor followed by espresso.
