Ingredients
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 oz green onions (sliced)
- 1 tbsp ginger (grated)
- 1 tbsp garlic (grated)
- 1 tbsp soy sauce (plus more for serving)
- 1 tsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil (plus extra for greasing the dish)
- 1 tsp chicken bouillon
- 1 tsp white pepper
- 1 tsp cornstarch (used as a binder)
- 14 wonton wrappers (medium thin)
- 0.25 cup water (for the baking dish, plus more for dipping and steaming)
- chili oil (for garnish (chili crunch oil also recommended))
Steps
- 1
In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, sliced green onions, grated ginger, grated garlic, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, chicken bouillon, white pepper, and a little cornstarch.
- 2
Mix all the ingredients thoroughly until the meat filling is well combined.
- 3
Grease a baking dish with sesame oil to prevent sticking.
- 4
Dip individual wonton wrappers in water and layer them across the bottom of the greased baking dish.
- 5
Spread a thin, even layer of the meat filling over the wonton wrappers.
- 6
Repeat the process of dipping wrappers and layering meat until you have three layers of meat filling, finishing with a final layer of wonton sheets on top.
- 7
Pour 1/4 cup of water directly into the baking dish over the layers.
- 8
Place the baking dish inside a larger deep pan or pot. Add enough water to the larger pan to create a steamer setup.
- 9
Cover the larger pan with a lid and steam over medium heat for 45 minutes.
- 10
Carefully remove the dish and garnish with additional sliced green onions.
- 11
Season with extra soy sauce, chili oil, or chili crunch oil before serving.
Notes
The transcript mentions adding a little cornstarch as a binder, which helps the meat texture. The author notes that while this is a great time-saver, they still prefer the texture of traditional individual dumplings.
