Cheesy Crab Rangoon Dip with Wonton Chips
A hot, creamy, cheesy crab dip inspired by classic crab rangoon, served with crispy wonton strips, crackers, or tortilla chips. A hand mixer makes the cream-cheese base especially light and scoopable.

Ingredients
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
- 0.5 cup mayonnaise
- 0.25 cup sour cream
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 0.25 cup Parmesan cheese (shredded)
- 2 cans crab meat (drained; two 6-ounce cans)
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded; reserve 1/3 cup for topping)
- 2 tbsp fresh chives (chopped; used in the dip)
- 1 clove garlic
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp fresh chives (chopped; optional garnish)
- wonton strips (crispy, crushed; optional garnish)
Steps
- 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a small baking dish or pie plate.
- 2
Place the softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, fresh lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce in a mixing bowl. Beat with a hand mixer on medium speed until the mixture is smooth, light, and fluffy, with no large lumps of cream cheese remaining.
- 3
Add the drained crab meat, Parmesan, most of the shredded mozzarella, 2 tablespoons of chopped chives, garlic, and black pepper. Stir until the crab and seasonings are evenly distributed. Reserve 1/3 cup of the mozzarella for the topping.
- 4
Transfer the dip mixture to the prepared small baking dish or pie plate and spread it into an even layer.
- 5
Sprinkle the reserved mozzarella evenly over the surface of the dip.
- 6
Bake for about 25 minutes, until the dip is heated through and the cheese is melted and bubbling around the edges.
- 7
Remove the dip from the oven. Garnish with the optional 1 tablespoon of chopped chives and crushed crispy wonton strips, if desired. Serve hot with wonton chips, tortilla chips, crackers, or other dippers.
Notes
Soften the cream cheese before mixing; beating it with a hand mixer produces a lighter, easier-to-scoop dip. The dip can be served with baked or fried wonton chips, though thicker egg-roll wrappers make sturdier chips. Tortilla chips and crackers are also suitable dippers.
