Ingredients

  • 1 shot Lungo espresso (Large espresso; prepare it hot)
  • 1 tsp Butter (Use approximately 1 teaspoon)
  • 0.5 oz Maple syrup (Add more if you prefer a sweeter drink)
  • Salt (A pinch)
  • Ice (Enough to fill the serving glass)
  • 3.5 oz Milk (Use your milk of choice; the source gives a range of 3–4 oz (90–120 ml))
  • Salt (Optional, for sprinkling on top)

Steps

  1. 1

Prepare one hot lungo (large espresso) and pour it into a heatproof glass or small frothing vessel.

  2. 2

Add the butter, maple syrup, and a pinch of salt to the hot espresso.

  3. 3

Froth the espresso mixture until the butter has completely dissolved and the mixture looks lightly foamy and well combined.

  4. 4

Fill a serving glass with ice.

  5. 5

Pour 3–4 oz (90–120 ml) of your milk of choice over the ice.

  6. 6

Pour the hot espresso mixture slowly over the iced milk so the coffee forms a layer on top, then serve immediately.

  7. 7

Optionally sprinkle a little additional salt over the surface before drinking.

Notes

The drink is best served immediately. Stir before drinking for a fully blended flavor and texture. Nutrition is estimated using whole milk and the midpoint of the stated milk range; values will vary with the milk selected.
