Ingredients
- 16 oz rye whiskey
- 8 oz water
- 6 oz sweet vermouth
- 0.5 tsp old-fashioned aromatic bitters
- cocktail cherries (for garnishing)
Steps
- 1
Combine 16 ounces rye, 8 ounces water, 6 ounces sweet vermouth, and ½ teaspoon old-fashioned aromatic bitters in a 1-liter glass bottle or 1-quart Mason jar.
- 2
Cover and freeze until well chilled, about 2 hours.
- 3
Prepare cocktails immediately or transfer to the refrigerator and store for up to 1 month.
- 4
If stored in the refrigerator, return the bottle to the freezer and chill for 30 minutes before preparing cocktails.
- 5
Gently shake the bottle to recombine the ingredients.
- 6
Serve the cocktails in chilled cocktail glasses, garnishing each with a cherry.
Notes
You can store the cocktail in a 1-quart Mason jar instead of a bottle if you like. This recipe works because it pre-dilutes the drink (simulating the melting ice of a stirred cocktail) and keeps it at the ideal serving temperature.
