Weights are estimates. Together, the ingredients weigh about 640 g before cooking, which is about 320 g per serving.
Steps
Prepare the rice: Wash 1 cup of white rice two or three times until the water runs clear. Add it to a rice cooker and fill with water until it reaches the first knuckle of your finger when touching the top of the rice. Start the rice cooker.
Place 1 pound of ground beef into a skillet over medium-high heat. Smash the meat down firmly to ensure good contact with the pan surface.
Allow the beef to cook undisturbed until a brown crust forms on the bottom, then flip the meat and smash it down again to sear the other side.
Once both sides have a good crust, use a spatula to break the beef into small crumbles and continue cooking until fully browned.
Drain the excess fat: Tilt the pan and use a wadded-up paper towel to soak up and remove the grease from the skillet.
Season the beef generously with your choice of seasoning and stir to combine.
Assemble the bowl: Scoop the cooked rice into a bowl, then top with the seasoned ground beef.
Garnish with a handful of pickled jalapenos, a sprinkle of shredded Colby Jack cheese, and a drizzle of your favorite hot sauce.
Notes
Variations: You can substitute the rice for potatoes or use lettuce to make it a taco bowl. The author mentions that others add cottage cheese for extra protein, though he prefers it without. This meal is highly effective for fat loss due to its high protein content and simplicity.
