Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar (granulated)
- 0.5 cup vanilla extract (homemade or high-quality store-bought)
- 3 cup half-and-half (enough to fill one 32-ounce mason jar total, including the syrup volume)
Steps
- 1
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of vanilla extract over medium-low heat.
- 2
Stir the mixture constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- 3
If the mixture seems too thick or dry, add a splash of half-and-half to provide extra liquid and help the sugar dissolve fully.
- 4
Once the sugar is dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat.
- 5
Stir in a small amount of half-and-half to the saucepan to cool the mixture slightly before transferring it to glass.
- 6
Pour the vanilla syrup into the bottom of a 32-ounce mason jar (or divide it evenly between two 16-ounce mason jars).
- 7
Fill the jar about two-thirds full with half-and-half and stir well, ensuring the syrup is fully incorporated and nothing is sticking to the sides or bottom of the jar.
- 8
Top off the jar with the remaining half-and-half, leaving a small amount of headspace at the top.
- 9
Secure a pour-spout or regular lid onto the jar and give it a good shake to finish mixing.
- 10
Store the creamer in the refrigerator and shake well before each use.
Notes
The recipe yields approximately 32 ounces of creamer. A serving size is estimated at 1 ounce (2 tablespoons). Shaking before use is important as the vanilla and sugar syrup can settle over time.
