Ingredients
- 1 lime wedge (to moisten the rim of the glass)
- 1 tsp coarse sea salt (or as needed for the rim)
- 1 large ice cube (for the serving glass)
- 1 cup ice cubes (or as needed for the shaker)
- 2 oz blanco tequila (preferably 100% agave)
- 1.5 oz triple sec (high quality, such as Cointreau)
- 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1 lime slice (for garnish)
Steps
- 1
Gather all the necessary ingredients for the preparation.
- 2
Moisten the rim of a cocktail glass with a lime wedge. Spread the coarse sea salt on a small plate and lightly dip the moistened rim into the salt to coat it evenly.
- 3
Place a large ice cube in the prepared glass and place the glass in the freezer until ready to serve.
- 4
Fill a cocktail shaker with fresh ice. Add the blanco tequila, triple sec, and freshly squeezed lime juice.
- 5
Cover the shaker and shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker looks frosted from the cold.
- 6
Strain the margarita into the chilled glass with the salted rim and garnish with a lime slice.
Notes
For best results, use fresh limes and a good quality triple sec like Cointreau. If you prefer a sweeter touch, you can add a splash of agave nectar. This recipe uses Chef John's 4:3:2 ratio.
