Ingredients
- 0.5 cup low-sodium soy sauce (Or coconut aminos for a soy-free option)
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar (Or brown rice vinegar)
- 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 0.25 tsp garlic powder
- 0.125 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp cornstarch (Or arrowroot powder)
Steps
- 1
Add the soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, garlic powder, black pepper, and cornstarch to a small bowl.
- 2
Whisk the ingredients together until well combined and the cornstarch is incorporated.
- 3
When the stir-fry is ready for sauce, pour the sauce over the hot stir-fry and stir well. Stir continuously so it cooks evenly and does not stick.
- 4
Allow the sauce to cook for a few minutes, until it thickens and begins to coat the stir-fry vegetables or other food. Once it coats the stir-fry, it is ready.
Notes
The sauce can also be used as a dip for spring rolls or wontons, drizzled over roasted vegetables, or used as a tofu or tempeh marinade. For marinades, the source notes that the cornstarch can be omitted. The source also mentions agave syrup, rice vinegar, lemon juice, lime juice, fresh garlic, and ginger as possible variations.
