Ingredients
- kosher salt (For the salted cooking water and seasoning, to taste.)
- 2 packages ramen noodles (Discard seasoning packets.)
- 2 large eggs (Lightly beaten.)
- freshly ground black pepper (For seasoning, to taste.)
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 jalapeño (Finely chopped.)
- 0.5 onion (Chopped.)
- 1 green onion (Thinly sliced.)
- 0.5 tsp garlic powder
- 4 Monterey Jack cheese slices
- lettuce (For serving.)
- 1 tomato (Sliced.)
- vegetable oil (For coating the pan.)
- Sriracha (For drizzling, optional.)
Steps
- 1
Make the ramen buns. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the ramen noodles according to the package instructions, then drain and rinse them with cold water.
- 2
Place the cooled noodles in a large bowl. Add the lightly beaten eggs and toss until the noodles are evenly coated. Season with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- 3
Heat a large nonstick pan over medium heat and pour in enough vegetable oil to thinly coat the bottom. Place the rings from 4 mason jar lids in the pan.
- 4
Using tongs, fill each lid ring with the noodle mixture. Press down on each portion to compact the noodles into even rounds.
- 5
Cook the noodle rounds until golden, about 4 minutes per side. Repeat as needed to cook the remaining noodle mixture, then wipe the pan clean.
- 6
Make the burgers. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped jalapeño, chopped onion, sliced green onion, and garlic powder. Mix just until combined.
- 7
Form the beef mixture into 4 patties. Season both sides of each patty with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- 8
Return the pan to medium-high heat and pour in a thin layer of vegetable oil to coat the bottom. When the oil is hot, add the beef patties.
- 9
Cook the patties until they reach your preferred doneness, about 4 minutes per side for medium.
- 10
During the last minute of cooking, place one Monterey Jack slice on each patty. Cover the pan with a tight-fitting lid and cook for about 1 minute, until the cheese is melted.
- 11
Assemble the burgers by topping 4 ramen buns with lettuce, sliced tomato, and a cooked burger patty.
- 12
Drizzle the patties with Sriracha if desired, then top each burger with one of the remaining ramen buns.
