Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 Italian sausages (Casings removed)
  • 1 green cabbage (Roughly chopped; use an entire head)
  • 1 white onion (Medium, diced)
  • 1 red bell pepper (Medium, diced)
  • 1 green bell pepper (Medium, diced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (Minced)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1 tbsp salt (Plus more for the cabbage and to taste)
  • 2 tsp cracked black pepper
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • chicken stock (Amount not specified)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water (Use 2–3 tablespoons to make the cornstarch slurry)
  • neutral oil or olive oil (A little, for sautéing; amount not specified)

Steps

  1. 1

Heat a little neutral oil or olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.

  2. 2

Add the diced white onion, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté until the vegetables begin to soften.

  3. 3

Add the ground beef and Italian sausage. Season with the salt, cracked black pepper, and Cajun seasoning.

  4. 4

Break up the beef and sausage in the pot and cook until the meat is fully and nicely browned.

  5. 5

Add the tomato paste. Cook it down for a couple of minutes, stirring until everything is well combined and the tomato paste begins to caramelize and stick slightly to the bottom of the pot.

  6. 6

Add the chicken stock and Worcestershire sauce, then stir to combine.

  7. 7

In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with 2–3 tablespoons of water until completely smooth. Stir the cornstarch slurry into the pot.

  8. 8

Pile the roughly chopped cabbage into the pot and sprinkle the top with a little more salt. It may look like too much cabbage at first, but it will cook down substantially.

  9. 9

Cover the pot, reduce the heat to medium-low, and cook slowly for about 30 minutes.

  10. 10

Give the mixture a good stir as the cabbage breaks down and releases its liquid. Continue until the cabbage is tender and everything is rich and saucy.

  11. 11

Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed, then serve hot.

Notes

The amount of chicken stock and cooking oil is not specified in the source. The creator notes that the Italian sausage is optional, although it contributes flavor.
