Ingredients
- 1 cup Lukewarm milk
- 1 cup Lukewarm water
- 10 g Dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tbsp Granulated sugar
- 100 ml Vegetable oil (Added to the dough; also used to brush the dough layers.)
- 1 Egg white (Added to the dough.)
- 1 Egg yolk (Brushed on top.)
- 1.5 tsp Salt (About 1.5–2 teaspoons; adjust to taste.)
- 5.5 cup Flour (Added gradually in approximately 4–5 additions.)
Steps
- 1
Place the lukewarm milk, lukewarm water, and sugar in a large bowl.
- 2
Add the yeast and let it stand for 3–4 minutes, until the yeast activates and bubbles form on the surface.
- 3
Add the vegetable oil and egg white. Combine the mixture with a spatula.
- 4
Begin kneading, adding the flour and salt gradually in 4–5 additions.
- 5
When the dough begins to come together, set aside the spatula and knead by hand. Knead until you have a smooth, soft dough.
- 6
Cover the dough and let it rise for approximately 30–40 minutes, until doubled in volume.
- 7
Divide the risen dough into portions and roll each portion out to a medium size.
- 8
Brush the layers of the rolled-out dough with oil and shape them by folding them into the pocket shape shown in the video.
- 9
Arrange the shaped dough pieces on a baking tray and leave them for a second rise for approximately 30 minutes.
- 10
Brush the egg yolk over the shaped dough pieces.
- 11
Preheat the oven to 200°C using the top-and-bottom heat setting.
- 12
Bake the poğaças in the preheated oven until their tops and bottoms are nicely browned.
- 13
If desired, fill the pockets of the baked poğaças with spreadable chocolate, bananas, or strawberries before serving. Alternatively, enjoy them plain as sandwich bread.
Notes
The source explains the exact shaping method for the poğaças by referring to the video; the written recipe does not include the folding details. Since the baking time is not specified in the source, the instructions only state to bake until browned.
