Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Cinnamon powder
  • 1 tbsp Ginger powder
  • 1 tbsp Cardamom powder
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla bean powder
  • 0.5 tbsp Nutmeg powder
  • 1 tsp Clove powder
  • Black pepper (2 pinches)
  • 1 cup Coffee or warmed milk (For serving; use approximately 1/4 tsp chai powder per cup.)
  • Preferred sugar (Optional; sweeten to taste. Recommended 1–2 tsp per cup.)

Steps

  1. 1

Add the cinnamon powder, ginger powder, cardamom powder, vanilla bean powder, nutmeg powder, clove powder, and black pepper to the mixer bowl. Place a piece of paper towel under the measuring cup to help prevent the powder from billowing out.

  2. 2

Mill for 2 minutes at speed 9 with the measuring cup on. For a Bellini machine, use the sharp blade and mill for two 1-minute periods, allowing the machine to rest for about 1 minute between periods to avoid potential overheating.

  3. 3

To use, add approximately 1/4 teaspoon of the chai spice mix to 1 cup of coffee or warmed milk.

  4. 4

Sweeten the drink to taste; the recipe recommends 1–2 teaspoons of your preferred sugar.

Notes

If using whole spices instead of powders, the source lists 10 g cinnamon stick, 6 g whole cardamom pods, 4 g nutmeg, and 2 g cloves; weigh these with kitchen scales. Bellini users should use the sharp blade and rest the machine between 1-minute milling periods.
