Ingredients
- 2 lb ground beef (Form into 6 patties; the source notes 80/20 beef was used.)
- McCormick Hamburger seasoning (Season both sides of the patties; amount not stated.)
- 8 oz Baby Bella Crimini mushrooms (One package; clean and slice.)
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1 tbsp minced garlic
- 0.5 cup beef broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 0.5 tsp salt (Listed as 1/2 tsp each with pepper.)
- 0.5 tsp pepper (Listed as 1/2 tsp each with salt.)
- 1 tsp garlic powder (Listed as 1 tsp each with onion powder and smoked paprika.)
- 1 tsp onion powder (Listed as 1 tsp each with garlic powder and smoked paprika.)
- 1 tsp smoked paprika (Listed as 1 tsp each with garlic powder and onion powder.)
- 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp dried parsley (Source spelling: “parlsey”; used as a topping.)
Steps
- 1
Form the ground beef into 6 patties, about 1/3 lb each. Season both sides with McCormick Hamburger seasoning.
- 2
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the patties for about 8 minutes, or until fully cooked, no longer pink, and at least 165°F (74°C) in the center on a meat thermometer.
- 3
While the burgers cook, clean and slice the mushrooms.
- 4
Once all patties are cooked, remove them from the skillet. Remove all but about 1 tablespoon of the frying grease, leaving the grease and browned bits in the pan.
- 5
Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet. Cook until they are golden and soft.
- 6
Add the minced garlic to the mushrooms and stir well.
- 7
Add the butter and flour. Stir together with the mushrooms to form a roux, and cook for at least 1 minute.
- 8
Add the beef broth, heavy cream, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and Parmesan cheese. Stir until the creamy gravy starts to thicken.
- 9
Lower the heat to low and return the hamburger steaks to the skillet.
- 10
Cover the hamburger steaks with gravy and let them sit in it for a few minutes so they can soak up the flavors.
- 11
Top with dried parsley. Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
Notes
The author used 80/20 ground beef and recommends removing all but about 1 tablespoon of the rendered grease. Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container and reheated in the microwave or in a pan over medium heat until warmed. If reheating in a pan and the sauce becomes too thick or separates, add a splash of heavy cream and stir well. Suggested sides include mashed potatoes, rice, egg noodles, green beans, or rolls.
