Ingredients
- 400 g Boneless chicken thighs (Cut into small pieces; thighs are recommended in the source)
- 2 tsp Ginger-garlic paste
- 0.5 tsp Salt (For the chicken)
- 0.5 tsp Black pepper (Ground)
- 1 tsp Kashmiri chili powder (Paprika was used instead in the video; use paprika for a milder option)
- 1 tsp Ground turmeric (Total amount: ½ tsp for the chicken and ½ tsp for the tempering)
- 1 tsp Lemon juice
- Oil for frying (Lightly brush or spray the pan; use very little oil)
- 1 Small onion (Thinly sliced; red onion is recommended)
- 1.5 Green chili (Chopped; the source calls for 1–2, but the video creator omitted it)
- 3 tbsp Fresh cilantro (Chopped and divided: half for the chicken-onion mixture, the rest for finishing)
- 1 cup Greek yogurt (Thick)
- 1 tsp Garlic paste
- 0.5 tsp Salt (For the yogurt)
- 0.5 tsp Sugar
- 1.5 tbsp Mustard oil (Alternative: any neutral oil; for the tempering)
- 1 tsp Paprika (For the tempering)
- 0.5 tsp Mustard seeds (For the tempering)
- 0.5 tsp Fenugreek seeds (Optional; for the tempering)
Steps
- 1
In a bowl, combine the chicken pieces with the ginger-garlic paste, salt for the chicken, black pepper, Kashmiri chili powder (or paprika), half the turmeric, and lemon juice. Let marinate for 10–15 minutes.
- 2
Lightly brush or spray the pan with a very small amount of oil. Pan-fry the chicken over medium-high heat until golden brown.
- 3
Transfer the cooked chicken to a bowl. Add the thinly sliced onion, chopped green chili, and half the cilantro. Mix well and set aside.
- 4
In another bowl, add the Greek yogurt, garlic paste, salt for the yogurt, and sugar. Whisk until smooth and creamy.
- 5
Heat the mustard oil in a small pan until smoking. Turn off the heat. Add the mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, remaining turmeric, and paprika.
- 6
Pour the hot tempering over the yogurt and gently swirl it in so that streaks remain visible.
- 7
Pour the yogurt mixture over the chicken-onion mixture and gently combine. Sprinkle the remaining cilantro on top.
- 8
Serve with roti or rice.
